Christmas Day

This has been the best Christmas ever. I am not even kidding. We all received a healthy showering of gifts and we spent tons of time together. I scored the most with a sweet GPS, an industrial laminator, an Al-clad pan, and other amazing stuff for my "grown up" kitchen. You can see the pictures of the boys as they relish the Christmas morning excitement. I also uploaded videos of the morning to our screencast.com site.

We love our little family and we have so much fun together.

Brando's Graduation

I was lucky enough to travel to Arizona for 5 days in December to see by little brother graduate from ASU with a degree in Art Education. I took a few short videos of him and his convocation ceremony. (You can download them from the screencast.com link I included above)

I am so proud of that boy. He is a great art teacher because first he is a great artist. I love talking to him about art ed and the projects he is doing with his students. Here he is getting ready to leave for the ceremony.

Christmas Eve

I think this picture is hilarious. Jacob in his santa suit is entertaining enough, but he has this mature look on his face that is like "really? 10:30 at night and we are still partying?"

We spent the evening with our friends the Heiselts. We ate great food, played Settlers of Catan game with a huge expansion pack, watched Muppet Christmas Carol, and reinacted the Nativity scene. I was Mary, Jacob was baby Jesus, Alex was a wiseman, Aaron chose to watch instead of be in it. The Heiselt family members were the other parts. It was pretty precious. Jacob just looked up at us and smiled.

A classroom full of elves!

Chris' mom Sharon made personalized aprons for each child and teacher in Alex and Aaron's classes. Aren't they adorable! The kids loved them so much. Sharon is one amazing Grandma.

The love between two brothers

Aaron and Jacob are best friends. Seriously, they love each other so much. Aaron will make silly faces, crazy noises, and shake toys right in front of Jacob's face and he eats it up. Here he put a beanie baby spider on Jacob's belly, which of course, he loved.
I love watching Jacob stare at Aaron just waiting to see what he will do next.

Jacob makes the cutest little sounds. Here he is making his sweet cooing sound. I think this boy is part angel.

Shopping for a Christmas Tree

We loved going to Tanenbaum Farms this year to cut down our very own Christmas tree. Chris and the boys got to take a tractor/wagon ride out to the forest, cut down a tree, and bring it back. Jacob and I stayed in the car with the camera which yeilded some cute pictures. It was a fun (and extremely cold) day.

Marshmallow Catapults

Its a "stay-at-home-and-build-weapons-out-of-recyclables" kind of day. Our creation was a catapult build from a tissue box, 2 pencils, 2 rubber bands, a milk cap, and a twisty tie. It shoots big marshmallows really well and the box is a good place to store the ammo.

November around the house

Aaron meditates regularly. As you can see, he takes it very seriously. If he meditates and no one sees him or comments on him doing it, he will come over and tell us "I just got done meditating!" His inner peace is astounding.
Jacob is happy as long as the boys are doing something interesting around him. Today he sat in his bumbo for over an hour watching them.

My boys relaxing after church the day Jacob was blessed. As you can see Jacob stayed in his church clothes while Chris and Aaron got cozy.

Black Friday Shopping

Without the coldness, early mornings, or long lines. Shopping online is my new black friday experience. I just found out about ebates.com which is a cool site that gives you a kick back percentage on the purchases you make at online stores.

For example if you are going to Kohls.com to buy something. Go to ebates.com, click on their Kohls.com link (shop the site like normal and make your purchase) and then 3-6% of whatever you purchased will be put in your ebates account. That account will slowly accrue and a check will be mailed to you every 3 months.

Registering is super easy (type in your email address and a password and you're ready to go) and if you do it by clicking on this link, I will get $10 for referring you. Yay! everyone wins.

Thanksgiving Day...

Totally awesome. We had a huge feast at our house with our friends the Bartletts, Richardsons, and Jorgensons. Everyone brought the most amazing food. There might have been a strategy involved with the people I invited. Each person brought something I now can't live without. The day was a success and I had my own personal win by not over-cooking the turkey. (note to self - trust the meat thermometer and not the suggested time on the turkey cooking instructions)

I am filled with gratitude for my friends and family. Especially my friends who stand in as family while we are out here in Michigan. We are so blessed. Our Heavenly Father is so mindful of our needs. Thanks be to Him.

Halloween

Halloween was really fun this year. The boys and Chris dressed up like ninjas and I was the shower a la Karate Kid. We went to the ward trunk or treat and called it good for the night. The boys had a great time with their swords, nun chucks, etc and no eyes got poked out - so it was a success.

I will definitely wear my costume again in future years. It was really comfortable because I just mounted the pvc shower curtain frame to my chair. Any Michigan friends I have are free to borrow it, but you have to sit in the chair to make it work.

Jacob sported a cute halloween sleeper and several blankets.

So much has happened...

Its been almost 2 months since I posted in here last. That is a record for me. My life went into a tailspin in late September, and now I think I can write a little bit about it.

A couple months ago, we bought plane tickets to go out west, visit family and do the St. George marathon. Then a couple days before we were to leave, Chris' grandma Vera died at the age of 92. With the help of Chris' parents, we bought new plane tickets to leave a day early than we had originally planned so that we could be there for the funeral. It as an emotional time as
we got to see all of Chris' family and attend the funeral and burial. That was Friday - Monday.

Tuesday was the only normal day of that week. We went to Hogle Zoo with Chris' family and toured SLC a bit. Alex lost his first tooth and we prepared to travel to St. George the next day.

Wednesday we drove down to St. George, met up with my sister Michelle and greeted my brother Justin and his family as they came into town from California. Thursday morning everything changed. We got a call from my mom that my dad had a heart attack. He had it two days prior, but was not treated until Thursday morning when my mom and dad realized that something was really wrong. Monday of that week my dad had a procedure where they put a scope down his nose and took a little sample from his lungs because he had questionable spots that appeared on a CT scan. When my dad had intense chest pain on Tuesday, he thought it was just a result of the procedure.

So many things happened once he was admitted to the hospital, I hope I get all the details in. (and it the right order) First, they put a couple stints in his heart to keep the arteries open in a certain area. They did this by going in through a point in his groin. The stints were good, but they got a clot and they had to go in again. After/while the this was happening my dad's kidneys were failing and they put him on dialysis. I guess this happens sometimes as a result of the dye they use in the stint procedure. Friday we had Alex's birthday party.

After the marathon on Saturday morning, Justin and Michelle drove their families down to be with my parents. I got a ride on Chris' dad's plane. (It was awesome, we went over the grand canyon.) While I was there from Sunday morning to Monday evening I got to spend 2, 2 hour sessions with him in the ICU. It was touch and go and his heart rate was not very consistent.

I left and he was looking better than when I got there. But Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of that week were not good. My dad's heart crashed several times and they had to defibrillate him. But once the doctors found a medication that regulated his heart and put in a pacemaker/defibrillator he was on the road to recovery. My sister April came down from Oregon to be with him during that time as well as Michelle, Justin, and Brandon. I came back to Michigan, but it felt like every 8 hours I would call and something new was happening.

My dad went through so much and continues to walk on pins and needles to keep his heath in place. He is the ultimate trooper. He was discharged from the hospital and his home now. My mom and he have many many doctors appointments each week. When I talk to them on the phone, they are sounding good and little rested.

As Veterans Day approaches, I think of my Dad and the life he has led. He has honorably served our country and led our family. Our country and our family are never far from his thoughts. I love him.
